La historia de Machu Picchu

I made a powerpoint presentation on the history of Machu Picchu...in Spanish. I have decided to show first what historians/overheard tour guides wandering around with their groups --

We didn't use a tour guide in Machu Picchu. Just overheard things while wandering around. For the record!

-- think Machu Picchu was and then I'll post next time what my opinion is. May this be good Spanish reading material for those trying to learn!:)

*I have removed the pictures I used for the presentation because some were not mine. I have yet to sit down and look at my own pictures. :-p
**I didn't mention anything about the Spanish (Spain) because I was told not to include that because 1)The professor is from Spain; 2)'It isn't actually known what happened over there'; 3)I have my own ideas but I'm just going to leave it out and leave the presentation as is. There are other historical facts but this is to just get the gist of Machu Picchu.

¿Qué es Machu Picchu?

♥ Machu = vieja y Picchu = montaña. ‘Montaña vieja’.
♥ Machu Picchu está ubicado en la región Cuzco en Peru.
♥ Machu Picchu es ‘Ciudad Perdida de Los Incas’.
♥ Machu Picchu fue construido en 1450 por los Incas.

¿Por qué se construyó Machu Picchu?

♥ Nadie sabe por qué Machu Picchu fue construido, pero tienen muchas teorías.
♥ Una teoría es que era un lugar tradicional para las ‘Vírgenes del Sol’.
♥ Otra teoría es que era una finca del Inca Emperador Pachacuti.
♥ Por último, podría ser un lugar sagrado un sitio religioso.

♥ Machu Picchu fue abandonada 100 años después en 1572.
♥ Los Españoles no encontraron Machu Picchu.
♥ Machu Picchu estaba escondida del mundo exterior.

El descubrimiento de Machu Picchu

♥ Hiram Bingham era un explorador y político de los Estados Unidos.
♥ Él descubrió Machu Picchu en 24 de Julio de 1911 guiado por locales agricultores indígenas.
♥ Otros dijeron que encontraron Machu Picchu primero.

♥ Se dice que Machu Picchu fue construido en su ubicación por su posición en las montañas (Machu Picchu y Huayna Picchu), estas tienen gran importancia en la cultura Inca.

¿Cómo se construyó Machu Picchu?

♥ Los Incas utilizaron la piedra para construir Machu Picchu.
♥ Los Incas utilizaron la técnica, sillería, para cortar las piedras para encajar firmemente juntos.
♥ Muros Incas fueron diseñados para ayudar a proteger contra el colapso en un terremoto.

♥ Para hacer que fuera difícil para los invasores atacar.

♥ Y sólo 400 visitantes al día a Huayna Picchu para subir a las 7 o 10 de la mañana.
♥ Puede ir a Machu Picchu por el Camino Inca o ir de excursion en tren y autobús a la entrada.

When Plans Change....YOU JUST GO WITH IT.

So I am excited to announce I've been planning my escape from the US for awhile now! And I am leaning to do this in 2013! Would have been this year but I have to take care of a few things before I can jet outta here.

For the longest time, I couldn't quite figure out where I wanted to go first. Typical. I want to see it ALL. I ended up dropping it down to Spain and Thailand. After thinking about it, I ended up choosing Thailand. Be there for a year. Hop around Asia. Then fly on over to Spain and check out Portugal, Greece, Morocco, and Egypt. And end in either Argentina, Peru, or Ecuador for another year or so. Sounds like a fantastic plan to me!

Really happy with my choice up until a few days ago...Uh oh, what did I do?!?!

Well there's this thing called the World Cup and it happens to be in Brazil in the year 2014. And it is my dream to go to at least one World Cup soccer game.♥

Rain ♥

Rain. I can't resist it. I'll sit near a slightly opened door to listen to its sound. I can watch it for hours and somehow I never get bored. I love it oh so much. In fact, I just enjoyed a homemade breakfast under an umbrella, outside in the rain. :)

Thought it would be wonderful to post a few pictures from some of the places I've been to on a rainy day.

New Find...

Still searching through my photos and thoughts of Machu Picchu...those shall be up soon! Until then, just wanted to post in between to catch up on my absence from here.

A friend of mine sent me this blog link: Solitary Wanderer the other day after mentioning my thoughts/nervousness on a big plan/dream I have in mind for 2013. I was instantly inspired to look into my plans more after taking just one look at his friend, Aleah's blog page, even before reading a few of her posts. Just looking at pictures and reading stories made me miss the backpacker trail more than I already do. So check her page out and get inspired!

I guess my nerves are due to always having a huge gap in between my travels

- biggest gap: 16 months; smallest gap: 5 months - both are bad! -

and it almost feels like I'm starting over each time I purchase plane tickets since it's not constantly happening. I always forget that feeling nervous is sometimes or most of the time, a good thing. That it means I am doing something right and just need a gentle push in the direction my eyes are set on. Unfortunately, unless plans change, which I'm not sure they will, I won't be picking out my window seats on any planes this year in hopes of making 2013 a good year. Patience is a virtue!! Or we'll just have to wait and see. ;)

Anyway, for fun, I'll mention one of her posts that sparked my attention: A Girl Who Travels... Noticed there were a lot of hits so thought that I would just see what this is all about. I've seen a few of these, different subjects of course, online but never really looked into any of them. I like to do what I want and normally don't follow things or ideas unless it is a useful learning experience. :-p As a 'girl and a traveler', I thought this was cute, a little too intense towards the end, but cute. I looked at it more for personality-wise, not do what this post tells you to do.

I hope you find the travel bug and it bites you hard. :)

Does anyone know the real reason Machu Picchu was built?



I don't. And I think that is how it should be. One should be allowed to let their brain juices flow and come up with their own scenarios...

Early Birthday Celebrating

My travel bud surprised me and took me on a fun movie and dinner date Friday! We saw The Vow and I cried. This is the 2nd time that I've cried at the movies in front of her. She says I'm getting all sappy now! What is wrong with me?! Ugh..

Then.....she took me to Roscoe's!! HECK YEAH! Can't turn that down. What an awesome friend! This was all her idea and I had no say in where we were going.:) The ONLY place that I will eat waffles with anything they'll give me. Not into any sticky stuff (honey, maple, caramel, chocolate, simple sugar syrup..etc) but of course you have to do it here. And the mac and cheese is BOMB! Tastes just like my homemade dish. And who would have thought of mixing orange juice and lemonade together?! I didn't. It had been a long time, Roscoe's.





My original plan was to go salsa dancing but I've been taking on a little more now, so when I think of dancing, I picture my bed and me sleeping in it! Plans changed!

The next night went out with the friends for another birthday celebration at The Stinking Rose. Gotta get my garlic fix. NO ONE LOVES GARLIC MORE THAN I DO. And this time, I made sure to get the Garlic Ice Cream.



I went in wanting the Shrimp hot plate but ended up with the Rosemary and Garlic Filet Mignon. Quite possibly the best I have ever had so far in my young life. Cooked to perfection. My tastebuds were happy. My heart was happy. My stomach was happy.



I suggested to a couple friends they should try out the 40 Clove Chicken dish. They were beyond thrilled by the result. Leah got down to the point and said, "This is the best chicken that I have ever had in my life." Enough said.



Everyone else was very pleased with their meals. All stomachs at our table were satisfied.

The Garlic Ice Cream with a Caramel Molé was bomb. Not at all overpowering. Couldn't have been better. Don't be scared off by the thought of eating garlic ice cream. Trust me on this.





So some lady told me to sit on the chair. Um, no thanks!

It was a fun weekend of movies, tears, perfect combos, and a wonderful meal.
